An important part of our discipleship and connection strategy is to find a place to serve. One mark of a disciple is that they don’t just sit and listen, they give back and invest themselves in the church and other people. It’s ok if you don’t know exactly what your gifts are or where you need to be. Everyone starts there. Our goal is to help you continue to grow in discipleship as you find a place to invest your life in the church and people.

There are many places to serve both in the college ministry and in the church. This list is a place to start. If you are gifted, passionate, or just interested in another area let us know and we’ll help you get plugged in there, too.

Expectations

Expectations for serving

  • Commit to consistency in both your service and your participation in other college ministry events – this means you will attend most college ministry events
  • Notify your leader in advance if you will not be able to perform your responsibilities or participate in any expected event
  • Live in a way that is above reproach as determined primarily by the Bible and secondarily by the college leadership
  • Affirm the overall vision and strategy of the college ministry
  • Engage personally in spiritual disciplines that promote maturity in Christ (Bible study, prayer, fasting, evangelism, community, giving, etc.)

Opportunities to Serve

Welcome Team

The welcome team’s purpose is to make people feel welcome and comfortable, much like hosting people at your house. This team is responsible for helping both visitors and regulars feel welcome, comfortable, and connected on Sunday morning, and for following up with visitors as designated by the welcome team leader.

Freshman Ministry

The purpose of freshman ministry is to intentionally engage freshmen, helping them transition to college life and connect to the local church. More than half the high school seniors who attend church have stopped by their sophomore year of college. That’s one reason why the freshman year is pivotal. A large part of this ministry will be relational and discipleship oriented as we look to help freshmen connect.

Audio/Visual Team

This team handles all of the sound, lighting, and video for worship. If you don’t know how, that’s ok. You just need to be willing to learn. We will teach you everything you need to know.

Leadership Team

These people will meet regularly with the college leadership to pray and help make decisions for the ministry in planning and overall strategy. These are people who love the ministry, are investing themselves, and want to serve in order to see the ministry be as effective as possible.

Event Planning

Help plan and carry out things like retreats, service days, concerts, parties, and other ministry events. This team will help with the overall planning of events and will also do many of the practical, logistical things to make them happen.

Campus Outreach

Be part of intentionally living and investing in the lives of students on campus. Campus outreach people will go to class and live life like everyone else, but will do these things with an intent to reach people on their campuses with the gospel and draw them into community through the church. There may also be special outreach events on campuses to participate in and help plan.

Leaders in Training (LIT) – Kids Discipleship

Leaders in Training (LIT) is a kids’ discipleship program built around small groups and ministry. The kids meet every Wednesday in small groups for discipleship and ministry groups to learn how to serve and invest themselves in various ways. Being part of LIT is a great way disciple kids and get to know families in the church while you also develop your discipling and leading skills.
